“The mind moves in the direction of our currently dominating thought.”
~ Earl Nightingale
Building on the work of NLP, Time Line Therapy (TLT) is a form of Brief Therapy developed by Dr. Tad James. The method offers a relatively quick way to release and eliminate emotions and limiting beliefs you have accumulated during your life time.
The basic premise of TLT is: Your “Time Line” is how you unconsciously store your memories or how you unconsciously know the difference between a memory from the past and a projection of the future. Behavioral change in an individual takes place at an unconscious level.
Most of us tend to suppress or ignore unpleasant memories and accompanying emotions. And that’s understandable. I mean, who wants to dwell on things that bring up sad or angry feelings, right? One thing to consider, though, is that what we perceive as negative or unpleasant emotions are simply fleeting internal states — neither wrong nor right. Just messages we are getting from our inner world that need our attention. If we looked at the uncomfortable internal states this way, we don’t have to fear them so much.
The problems arise when we don’t process and let go of certain experiences. Just because we suppress something, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It is there but we simply choose to ignore it for whatever reason. The memory of that experience both physically and emotionally is retained within (in the subconscious) us and often plays a role in how we think, feel, and act in the future.
Utilizing TLT techniques, we can access the root cause of these emotions and beliefs. And it makes it possible for your subconscious mind to learn whatever it needs to learn from a particular past experience but release blocks or obstacles, which may have prevented you from moving forward.
Studies confirm the mind/body connection. What you think, believe, and feel influence the state of your body. Thus it is reasonably true to say that working through suppressed past emotions can play a crucial role in physical healing and overall well-being.
To put it succinctly, TLT’s intent is to release negative emotions and eliminate limiting decisions from the past so you can create your future the way you desire (success, happiness, fulfillment, etc.).
